About the Book

You asked your team for an AI agent and got a smarter chatbot instead. If that sounds familiar, it wasn’t your fault, and it wasn’t the technology’s. The work was delegated without ever being framed.

BeyondChat makes a single argument: the future of business AI is choreography, not conversation. Chat windows were the on-ramp. The lasting value lives in governed, multi-step systems that complete goals rather than answer questions, systems in which models, tools, and people each have a defined part to play.

This is a book for the executives who decide what to build, what to buy, and what to trust, not a manual for the technologists who wire it together. You won’t find prompts or tool tutorials here. You’ll find a mental model you can make real decisions with: how to tell a chat wrapper from a governed system, what to ask your team and your vendors, where human judgment has to stay in charge, and where defensible value lives once AI capability is cheap.

The argument runs from why so many AI pilots stall, through how working systems are designed, governed, and paid for, to what remains distinctly yours to own. It draws on documented cases from healthcare, finance, air travel, food service, and software, and on the author’s own years of building and running a company. Along the way, it puts eleven decisions squarely in your hands, and it closes with the single mandate that ties them together.

Advance Praise

“BeyondChat is great and delivers on its title. The stories from the trenches are where it rises above many of the other ‘Guide to AI’ books that have been popping up, many of which lack substance from real experiences. I like the tone and the way Ken Garnett frames what building with AI looks like. This is the kind of book that would be useful for students in classrooms.”

David Wilson, PhDAssociate Professor of Information Systems, Brigham Young University

“BeyondChat is more than a book about AI. It is a glimpse around the corner.

Ken Garnett writes with an almost prophetic clarity about where AI is taking us after the excitement surrounding prompts, agents, and automation begins to settle. His central insight is powerful: the future will belong not simply to those who use AI, but to those who understand how to design, direct, govern, and own the systems built around it.

For executives, consultants, coaches, and business leaders who want to get ahead of the curve rather than chase it, BeyondChat is essential reading.”
